Bandon Foróige club have had very busy first term.
Our club welcomed 9 new members this year , which brings our total to 46 members.
We began in September with an election to choose our committee and the following were elected: Julie mcCarthy, chairperson, Maeve Lynch, secretary , Cian Collins, treasurer,Micheál Hegarty assistant treasurer, Rachel Coughlan was elected as P.R.O and Paul Lang, assistant P.R.O.
During our first term we went on an outing to Mahon Point to thecinema,it was an enjoyable outing for all the members and a good treat to kick off the new club year.
Our quiz team also came second in the West Cork final, held in Rosscarbery, narrowly beaten by our neighboring club, Newcestown. The team members' were Joe O'Mahony, Timmy Mc Carthy, Elaine Murphy & Rachel Coughlan, the team won a cash prize to take back to the club.
We also celebrated Halloween together on the 25th of October. The older members with the help of our leader, Jennifer Collins, organized Halloween games for everyone in the club,it wasvery enjoyable for all the members and a great success.
Our committee members recently had officer training with other clubs in the Bandon area given by our RYO (Regional Youth Officer), JohnDennigan. It was a very beneficial night for the committee and enjoyable to mix with members from other clubs.
Following a recent meeting in the Town Hall, the older members of our club (15 years +) and clubs around the Bandon area, have formed an 'Older Members' group. We hope to meet up once a month for our own club nights. This will be enjoyable for older members as it gives us a chance to mix with other clubs from the Bandon area and with members of our own age.
At the moment the club is continuing with normal club nights which begin with a meeting for all the members. We then get the chance to play games, take part in activities including pool, table tennis , basketball , soccer and fuze ball. At a recent club night our leaders, Katie & Paul organised a drama improvisation workshop, the members really enjoyed it and hope to organise more over the coming months. The club also has pizza nights on special occasions.
We are now busy planning activities and club nights up to the end of December. We hope to have a club night with Kilbritian Foróige for Christmas, the younger members will go to the West Cork disco in Clon in December and the older members will go to the cinema. We also hope to take part in a citizen project this year to get involved with the community and present the project at ShowCase West Cork next April.
